One-on-one lessons are the right idea for taking your skills to the next level.  However, I need to let you know that it will take a big commitment of time and energy on your part to get the most out of it.  If you are really interested in professional instruction, be ready to make magic a part of your life.  So, if you are ready for that, I have a few thoughts for you to consider...

First of all, magic, like music, is a performance art and learning magic can be much like learning a trade skill such as painting or pottery.  Any of those skills can be either an avocation or a vocation (a hobby or a business).  Expert musicians, painters and potters are able to enjoy generous incomes for the services they provide only because they fully learned their craft and spent the time it takes to master it.

Second, potentially lucrative trade crafts tend to require fairly expensive training.  If you want to expect a hundred dollars for an hour’s worth of work, you should also expect that the training for such a job will cost many, many times that (think about plumbers or electricians).  Magic is not how I have chosen to make my living – by day I work for a software developer – nevertheless, I am able to regularly book magic gigs for $300 – 400 per hour (when I started out it was $100).  Had it not been for the training I received, I wouldn’t be making even $20 for an hour of magic.

Third, of the various trades demanding such high dollars per hour, I can only think of a handful that will get you invited to parties and paid to show up.  Magic, once it has been mastered, is literally a way to get paid to have fun.

What I offer private students are the skills and know-how necessary to develop themselves into talented, profesional performers who are able to make good money while having a good time. 

The Advanced Course looks like this:

Over the course of 3 - 4 weeks you and I will arrange to meet for five 3 hour long, intensive study sessions.  The full 15 hour course will cost $1000 payable in $200 increments due after each lesson.  I will be teaching you material as fast as you can absorb it, but I will also be expecting you to work hard to master the techniques during the time between sessions.  The skills presented in each session will build upon those from the previous one.  Our goal will be for you to be comfortable performing a routine of moderate length for a medium sized audience. 

Obviously, $1000 represents a serious financial commitment.  If you decide that this is a direction that you are ready to pursue we should have a look at our respective schedules as soon as possible.  Based on the testimonials from my workshops and prior advances students,  I can confidently say that the quality of instruction that you will receive is of a very high caliber.  I have instructed hundreds of students and turned out many accomplished performers.  I also make a point to advise and support the continued training of all of my advanced students for as long as they explore the art of magic.  Magic is always very challenging, but it’s also very rewarding.  You will have to decide for yourself if you are ready to take on a course like this one.  I would be honored to have the opportunity to add you to the list of successful entertainers that I helped to shape. 

One final consideration, no matter how you plan to study the art of magic, is that the equipment also tends to be pricy so expect to do a bit of “back to school” shopping before you get started.
